Vision and Objectives
WACSOF envisions a West Africa sub region characterized by democracy, human rights, good governance, the rule of law, economic prosperity, and social justice. At the core of WACSOF’s mission is the empowerment of civil society to exploit the public space. In liberal democracy to which WACSOF aspires, the sovereigns are the people. It is determined to make this a reality in West Africa.
Objectives
- To strengthen and institutionalize a relationship between West African civil society and ECOWAS.
- To hold a biennial People’s Forum for members of WACSOF with the purpose of submitting recommendations to West African ministers and heads of state on human security issues.
- To audit the implementation and legislative domestication of ECOWAS treaties, protocols and decisions relating to human security and peace in the region.
- To establish national and sub-regional monitoring mechanisms on the status of human security in West Africa.
- To popularise ECOWAS in the consciousness of West African - particularly youth - through appropriate programmes such as popular media.
- To actively promote a sense of community citizenship between ECOWAS member states and CSOs.
